I’m sure you all know by now of the tax minimisation move by Virgin to Switzerland. It is quite sad that another successful entrepreneur and self-appointed national treasure should find Britain a great place to live, work and do business but not to pay tax.
Would we all do the same if we had almost £3 billion in personal wealth? Yes, the tax bill would be rather large but only because we were hugely successful. Apparently the amount of tax he saves would amount to the equivalent of 9,000 nurses. If you were in that position would you rub your awful goat beard and internally debate the social benefits as a result of paying or would you absolutely believe the country didn’t need it? After all, the NHS wastes so much money as does every public service – you worked hard all to make the £3 billion and the NHS would easily pour three times as much on useless IT projects that are become out-dated before they are even at testing stage.
Perhaps there would be more incentive to stay and pay if big business could see directly where their tax bill was going and who it was helping. They could even come in and show the government how to add and subtract for efficiency and we would all benefit. I’m going off on a tangent here but did you know that in the last Labour government hardly any Minister with gigantic spending powers and budgets actually had any knowledge of basic accounting and management? I have a small business and would not give any budget from my business to an employee who didn’t know how to responsibly mange the accounts I wonder that on a national level this is not mandatory.
