It’s not a scene from Deewar, where our hero’s mother takes piles of bricks on her head to help make ends meet. This is a new construction taking place not far from where I live in an apparently affluent part of South Delhi.
No one could tell me what was being constructed…a mall or an office block? I have seen women in saris with glistening jewellery and construction worker jackets and hard hats helping build Delhi’s flyovers too and it’s quite fabulous.
