McBooks From McDonald’s

I didn’t know the sad statistic that one in three children in the UK do not own a book.  Whether this is due to poverty or parents such as Victoria Beckham who famously does not read is unknown but help is coming from an unlikely corner: McDonald’s.

From now until 7th February they will be giving away books instead of toys with their Happy Meals.  The books are from the Mudpuddle Farm series by War Horse author, Michael Morpurgo and each book comes with a finger puppet to increase  interaction.  I wouldn’t usually say this but take the little people in your life to McDonalds now!

  1. I wonder if less kids will get less happy meals bought for them now… About 1 in 5 parents can’t read aloud, and about 1 in 7 people in the USA are illiterate. I’m not saying that exactly 1 in 7 people who go to MacDonalds can’t read, but say if you were a parent who couldn’t read, wouldn’t you avoid being put on the spot by buying your child a book, either directly by buying the book from a bookshop or indirectly by buying a happy meal with a book in it?

In any case, I think it’s a good idea.

And what does Victoria Beckham actually do? She doesn’t read, she doesn’t smile, she doesn’t eat, she doesn’t sing…

  2. EH?? Victoria Beckham does not read?

  3. apparently she doesn’t this was reported years ago and caused a shock then too.
