Fashion royalty, Karl Lagerfeld opened a pop-up shop in Selfridges Oxford Street this week for his own brand. If you have never seen it, I wholeheartedly recommend Lagerfeld Confidential, the documentary (now on DVD) about the life of fashion’s most confident and mischievous designer.
As you may know Karl is the head of Chanel and is widely credited for Chanel’s commercial success. Under his own label, Karl Lagerfeld was the first designer to collaborate with High Street giant H & M paving the way for others to follow. He was also the first to launch a limited edition power product – Rouge Noir – which woman doesn’t have a bottle of that??
What I regard as Karl’s wicked sense of humour, others find deeply offensive. The Guardian highlighted some great comments from King Karl and these are worth a chuckle:
Princess Diana “was pretty and sweet, but she was stupid.”
… his mother forbade him from making childish chitchat, telling him: “You may be six years old, but I am not.”
Magic.
