Last night saw American swimmer Michael Phelps become the greatest Olympian of all time by winning gold in the Men’s 4x200m relay. A sensational race and emphatic win for the 19 medal Olympian which had me glued to my seat.
Celebrated by the entire Aquatic Centre and the millions watching on television, it was a proud moment for Great Britain. History was made at London 2012 beating a 48 year old record of Russian gymnast Larisa Latynina.
What a relay it was. Phelps was the anchorman and cruised his 200m after his fellow team mates had put in all the hard work in securing an impressing body length lead. You could see the emotion and jubilation in Phelps especially after his disappointing loss in the 200m fly to 20yr old South African Chad Le Clos who claimed his first Olympic gold medal. I say loss but it was only to claim silver by a millisecond. Achievements not to be snubbed.
It was an emotional night for swimming and the funniest clip was from Chad Le Clos’s father who just kept taking the mickey out his round plump self whilst bowing to his Olympic winning son.
Looking forward to another day of Olympic records.
