Fashion designers Anand Kabra and Payal Pratap opened Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week with their joint show on Day 1. Anand Kabra studied at the London College of Fashion but designs both Indian and Western silhouettes.
Both designers had quite different shows the dominant colour in Anand’s being a lovely ochre yellow which I am very fond of but it is a difficult shade for most women to pull off. The Western styles were lovely in their simplicity.
Payal Pratap’s collection reminded me of Sabyasachi Mukherjees shows, at least in styling with all the layers.
A rustic folk collection with nomadic influences in a burst of colour from beiges to burnt orange, purples and muted pinks to indigo they are certainly colours to complement a nice sun tan.
Wendell Rodricks is an established designer from Goa and hailed as India’s guru of minimalism who pioneered Indian resort wear. His collection had a dreamy flow, no doubt living close to the sea helps. Wendell took inspiration from an imaginary nautical journey that begins in Goa and ends in Shanghai.
