The hottest ticket in town was the Manish Arora’s closing show for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013. “Squeeze up some more!” were the cries from the pretty PR organisers to the press pack as we shuffled this way and that to make room for late arrivals.
Manish Arora already presented his collection inspired by his trip to the Burning Man art festival in Nevada in Paris and so we were treated to a show on the same scale. The Michael Jackson of the Indian fashion designers, Manish is a master entertainer. A specially constructed catwalk that was 50% longer, a live band (Hilite Tribe) imported from Paris, wild flame graphics and celebrities were all required.
His first looks were constructed of sky blue and digital prints of the Nevada desert landscape and as the collection progressed the evening clouds moved in mixed with neon motifs and a play of geometric motifs. Accessories included Manish’s collaboration with Amrapali, one of India’s finest jewellery makers, and funky moulded leather turbans. The neon make-up and back-combed hair produced a striking look.
Designer, Manish Arora
Manish Arora’s show was sponsored by Wills Lifestyle who are the main sponsors of India fashion week. Wills Lifestyle announced in the show notes that Manish Arora will be co-creating an exclusive collection for their stores which will be retailed under the Wills Signature brand. That will be a welcome inclusion to the Indian mid-price fashion bracket.
