Before mean old Mount Vesuvius erupted and engulfed Pompeii it was an exquisite, sophisticated city and home to some of the Roman period’s best arts and crafts. Pompeii provided the romantic backdrop to veteran Indian designer Suneet Varma’s bridal couture collection entitled ‘The Golden Bracelet’. There weren’t too many gold bracelets on display, however, there was a stunning gold bust that I absolutely must get my hands on.. it looks about my size…
Elegant drapery and colours such as cobalt, gold, coral and regal purple captured the energy of the earthly paradise that was once Pompeii.
Tarun Tahiliani provided the grand finale show of India Bridal Couture Week in Delhi. It’s been a stellar year for the designer after Oprah Winfrey wore a gorgeous Tahiliani sari when she visited India and he also participated in an extravagant exhibition at Cannes.
Tarun Tahiliani’s show, Marriage…Mystic …Magic played homage to India’s strong cultural roots and sense of drama whilst imbuing intricacy and lightness.
Tarun Tahiliani says, “Glimpses of shimmering gold, hues of soft pastels and a whimsical frothiness are reminiscent of an era of charm and elegance. Creating couture which keeps distinctive Indian crafts alive, while exploring visions in sparkling crystal and carat, reflects emotions that give shape to sensuous, elegant and bespoke luxury for brides, grooms and their families as well as for other occasions. This collection will be living, breathing heritage, married with the fresh vibrancy and essence of modern India.” Although it wasn’t specifically mentioned there was an unmistakeable art deco feel to some of the looks which gave the collection an edge.
