JJ Valaya and his Bolshoi Bazaar

With a toe, or sewing needle, dipped in India and the other in Russia, JJ Valaya’s Bolshoi Bazaar collection was an ode to regal indulgence.

India is of course JJ’s True Love and each season the designer merges Indian cultural inspiration with a foreign heritage as long as it has a rich and colourful history! Russia from the time of the Czars and nomadic Russia with subtle touches of orthodox Russia lent a creative kaleidoscope from which JJ cherry picked.

A catwalk strewn with colourful rugs and bold stage set with a Russian doll and onion minarets, the immaculate collection that followed was a real treat. Russia and fur are synonymous but JJ’s mini fur stole was light and luxurious enough to glamourise an outfit without swallowing it. This can also be said of the offsetting of the India brights with neutral and mink tones, perfect!
