Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 in association with Maybelline is well under way and as usual, you can take a peak at the best shows here at The Chatterjis Blog!

Opening proceedings this season was top designer, Sanjay Garg and his brand Raw Mango.  The show was dedicated to one fabric: mashru. Mashru was introduced to India by the Mughals it is a cotton and silk weave originally created to provide ‘halal’ fabric for menswear (silk for Muslim men is deemed haram, oh yes of course…).  Production stopped in India in the 1940s inspiring Sanjay Garg and his company to re-instate the skill in Benaras. Now his hugely successful brand helps to keep the textile alive.

The designer’s vibrant colour palette and elaborate designs demonstrate the beauty and drape of the fabric. Repeat motifs and stripes are in step with the traditional origins of Mashru.

Anju Modi Couture Collection 2014

Anju Modi’s couture collection for 2014 was inspired by Varanasi ghats, a city dedicated to the gods.  Bold embroidery motifs reminiscing the temple-laden skyline adorned heavy bridal lehengas in a beautifully balanced colour palette of royal blue through to cherry tones and frosty pastels.

Candies For Grown Ups!

Whilst not quite recovered from the fashion-frenzied hangover from all next season’s shows the flash bulbs went off once more across town for the launch of Sunglass Icon in Delhi’s luxury Emporio Mall.

Baroque and gold leaf detail in the D & G range

Sunglass Icon is the posher big sister of Sunglass Hut…Ray Bans are the cheapest sunnies on offer in the product range.  With Brit Bad Girl Jade Jagger splashed over the front and advertisements sporting baroque D & G sunglasses the launch was certainly eye-catching.

I arrived at the event with fellow blogger, Nupur Dayal of Indian style blog Joos.  We became friends as our butt cheeks squeezed together at the crowded Delhi shows.

Punjabi Rock n Roll & Kitsch Kedgeree

Ritu Beri 1

Who can say regardez-moi, the loudest?  On one monsoon evening in Delhi two of Indian fashion’s most entertaining designers presented their couture collections.  Both have strong associations with Paris but the words chalk and cheese were never more relevant.  The first was Ritu Beri, India’s 80s Paris-trained girl wonder whose show included a live band and a couple of designers she worked in collaboration with.

Exotic Punjab was the theme

Heavenly Heritage Fashion

Over at Rajesh Pratap Singh’s show the catwalk had been transformed into an Autumnal woodland.  Rajesh Pratap Singh is the current brand ambassador for Woolmark and the show was sponsored by them.

The ground lay strewn with rust coloured foliage and bleak trees glowed with pod lights.  The effect was magical.

Because You’re Worth It

I hope L’Oreal dont sue me for using their tag line but I’ve picked a selection of wonderful accessories that will bring hours of happiness and compliment your Christmas party outfit.  High budget or low, there is something for every girl’s treasure chest, sit back and enjoy:

Gold tassel belt by ethical designer, Shazia Saleem, £35.  The belt is 2m long and can be worn in a whole selection of ways, even a necklace.

Beautiful Swarovski crystal earrings by Erikson Beamon, £480 on Net-a-Porter.  The colours of the crystals are just beautiful.  You don’t have to be matchy matchy, they would look great on a contrasting outfit too.

Ooh La La!

You cannot deny that there are certain things French women do fabulously: have affairs with politicians, skipping meals for cigarettes and black coffee .. and wearing scarves. French women wear scarves in their teens and continue to do so for the rest of their lives. Copy and steal!
