Two Mummies

Dear Diary,

On a day out in Haggerston Park, in Shoreditch, my four year old daughter was asked by another toddler where her daddy was. Before my daughter had the chance to reply, the toddler’s mother said in a very matter of fact way, “no darling, she has two mumies”.

Home Alone

A woman was jailed today for leaving her 6 year old child at home alone for five days. The story behind this case is just so tragic, it breaks my heart.

A Lovely Conversation

A lovely conversation between Kiran and Anita Desai was published in last week’s Guardian and I wanted to share it with you.

I have the Desai collection and have enjoyed the books, so am looking forward to Anita Desai’s new book “The Artist of Disappearance”.

The pleasures of “me time”, that I once relished as a single woman, are now reduced to stolen moments of drinking a cup of tea in peace, blow drying my hair without someone asking me to do something or indulging in a home face mask when the kids have gone to bed.

Oh No, It’s A Girl

Dear Diary,

A friend of mine has recently found out she is pregnant and is burdened with the pressure from both sides of the family, especially her in-laws, on discovering whether the baby is a boy so that they can prepare for their disappointment. I find it heartbreaking that an unborn child is already being judged on something it has no control over.
