Did you hear the Great Debate yesterday between the above? Probably not if you don’t live in England or have a job as it was aired during office hours.
Anyway, there is much commentary and analysis about it today in the papers and on Radio 4. Wide consensus is that Farage won.

There was something quite disturbing about listening to the news on British aid to India last night. The message that came across loud an clear was “you buy our fighter jets and we will give you aid”? Is Britain trying to buy Indian contracts with promises of aid? Andrew Mitchell, Development Secretary describes it as being part of the round. Surely aid and commercial business should be separate entities with clearly defined boundaries…

Nicolas Sarkozy apparently snapped at David Cameron telling him that he was fed up of Britain telling them how to fix the Euro and it was none of our business as we were not part of the single currency.
The new father must be suffering

David Cameron used his party speech to bring child adoption to the front of his agenda highlighting the woefully inadequate placement of children. With children from ethnic minorities the figures are worse as an ethnic match is preferred but ethnic minority families seem more reluctant to put themselves forward.

Deal with your debt and help Britain economy in its road to recovery is the message from Prime Minister David Cameron today at the Tory party conference in Manchester. His speech has baffled me today. Speaking to the conference as if the nation are 5 year olds, he makes assumptions that those in debt can somehow rustle up the money to pay them off. Surely, if they could do that, then they wouldn’t be in debt?

Friends from around the world have been contacting me to ask if I’m okay as images of London’s riotous weekend fire across their screens (fortunately I’m not near the action at all). I found it very interesting that our political leaders did not express their concern about the safety of Londoners

What a week, News International seems to be getting into more trouble by the day and the other papers can’t get enough of the action. A friend in Delhi who writes for a broadsheet is enjoying the scandalous spectacle and he writes the gossip column!
The police’s involvement with News International is sinister

Kate McCann launched a book today to help raise funds for their continuous search for Madeleine. This story still makes me very sad, my little niece was 2 when Madeleine disappeared and I remember not wanting to let her out of my sight even in the garden.
Also today, the McCanns published an open letter in a newspaper addressed to David Cameron pleading for his intervention in Madeleine’s case (he has). The Portuguese authorities closed the case after 14 months

Is anybody else feeling a little sorry for Nick Clegg?

Last night was suicidal for the Deputy Prime Minister. The man has witnessed the worst results in local elections for the Liberal Demorats since the 1980’s, 70% of the population voted against AV and his entire flock seems to be blaming him for the Tory cuts. David Cameron is grinning like a chesire cat!!

British politics may change forever if the Alternative Vote is voted for on May 5th. Nick Clegg has been publicising AV prior to the general election and this coalition government was formed on the agreement that a referendum on this voting reform would take place.

Are you confused about the Alternative Vote? The following link explains it in 2 minutes.

Images of the 70’s sitcom, Mind Your Language, came to mind as David Cameron iterated the importance of immigrants speaking English to enable an integrated and functional society. I really do agree with this and think learning the native language of the country you live in is only for your own benefit.

UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, opened a can of worms on higher education when commenting on the entrance figures of ethnic minority students to Oxford or Cambridge. Although his statistics were slightly incorrect, the message was heard. Oxbridge is for the privileged and elite. There is no place there for state school students or ethnic minorities. They just don’t fit do they?
