This Sunday is Mother’s Day in Britain. My mother’s experience of the special Sunday has evolved from breakfast trays of soggy cereal and cold eggs served when my sister and I were little to a rather more tasty and charming affair now that we’re older. The best aromas of Christmas must be that of mulled wine and warm mince pies. Since I will spend Christmas in Delhi (sniff) I’ll share a taste of what I will miss, you cannot beat my mulled wine recipe – try and see for yourself.
You will need the following:
2 bottles of good red wine – I use cab sauv which works really well. It is a myth that you can use rubbish wine. Repeat after me: rubbish wine = rubbish mulled wine.

Like the lyrics of a Mary Poppins song, this hamper from Fortnum & Mason is truly scrumptious and should help with wedding picnics and afternoon tea.
I love picnics, my mum would always organise huge ones for the family with all us cousins munching sandwiches, crisps and samosas
