Summer is fun but you are invariably saving up for a holiday or have recently spent over your budget on one. This is how my sister and I came to find ourselves one evening in London. Water water everywhere and not a drop to sip. (Change “water” to “champagne” and you will have our general mood).
“This looks a bit shit,” one of us murmurs “but shall we watch it?”. Yah, we have nothing better to do. Enter episode one of the Honourable Woman, which I have to admit did not really impress me. Yet I found myself returning week after week to watch it. (I have not religiously watched a weekly series since Twin Peaks and I’m not exaggerating). I believe it was because of the women.
When was the last time you saw a tv series filled with older women in strong roles with excellent dialogue?

A new documentary that premiered at the Sheffield Doc/Fest unraveled the secret career of Uri Geller as an international psychic spy. Spoon-bender extraordinaire Uri was allegedly recruited by the US and Israeli governments in a race with the Soviets in a psychic arms race. It sounds too silly to be true but the documentary maker apparently managed to make the hypothesis convincing

British MP George Galloway must only be second to Madonna as the best self-publicist.
Last week, George (a former Big Brother contestant) stormed out of a debate at Oxford University after a student stood up to ask him a question. The purpose of the debate was to open a dialogue regarding Israel and Palestine. George used his speech to condemn Israel but then went on to say he didn’t recognise the state of Israel. Isn’t this contradictory?

Even formerly sympathetic people find themselves disgusted by Israel’s mini war on Hammas and the Palestinians.
The timing has been blamed on Israeli elections taking place in January and that the war should make Netenyahu look good and distract from social politics to his favoured security politics. Well, I’m sure the Gazans dying ‘by accident’

A story that may have been buried in all the season’s festivities about the US Senate trying to force Twitter to close/block accounts believed to be registered to terrorist groups such as the Taliban and Al Shabab from Sudan. Reports have also claimed that Israel has threatened Twitter with legal action if they do not close Hezbollah accounts.
So…free speech is only okay with the expressed permission of the USA.
