My sis and I went to watch Attacking The Devil: Harold Evans and the Last Nazi War Crime at the Picture House Cinema (Central London) on Tuesday this week and it was so worthwhile. It’s hard to describe a moving documentary on such an important subject matter with the usual ‘must-see, fantastic’ as the subject matter is so upsetting.

A trial is underway for the manslaughter of a 4 years old boy who died after a botched home circumcision. Performed by a 66 year old nurse using a pair of scissors and olive oil, the nurse left an open wound which caused the boy to bleed to death.

The practice was carried out by a Nigerian nurse who took £100 as a fee for the procedure. The family also, Nigerian, were unaware that circumcision is provided free on the NHS.

The devastating death of Savita Halappanavar needs to make Ireland stand up and change its anti-abortion laws. The tragedy here is that government religious legislation ruled over medical sense.
