Polio Certificate to Leave Pakistan

WHO

From June 2014 if Pakistanis want to visit countries abroad they need a government authorised certificate that they have been vaccinated against polio after new advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO).  Pakistan, Syria and Cameroon have been singled out as the last threatening reserves of the disease.

Although adults can carry the disease it only affects children often leaving them disabled.  Polio workers in Pakistan have been consistently targeted

Not the News

One would imagine that the sudden creation of 300,000 refugees and mass panic in the world’s largest democracy would warrant a news story in the United Kingdom but apparently not.

In recent days in Assam, a region in north east India has seen a surge in attacks between Hindus and Muslims in the area and there have been accusations of ethnic cleansing.

Beware of Greeks Bearing Racism

An article in today’s New York Times highlights the increasing levels of racist attacks on immigrants inGreece and the relative complacency of politicians, police and the public at large.

In economic downturns, immigrants are always the easy target to vent political inaction and even the local population taking their fair share of responsibility and ‘blame’ for their own phobia against paying taxes and penchant for loans.

Of course it is more newsworthy and scandalous

Men in Heels

An interesting new trend from NYC sees men squeezing their size 11s into the latest designer heels and it seems that the sky is the limit as to how high they will go and how much men will spend.  Of course many designers don’t produce styles in larger sizes so some of these guys have spent $3,000 on custom designs.

Disappearing Act

It is now acknowledged that the nuclear reactors at Fukushima went into meltdown in early days therefore they were also turning out nuclear waste into the envionment from the early days.  How shocking though that this is actually not terribly news worthy and that Ryan Giggs’ super-injunction is.  My Indian broadsheet gave the Japan nuclear story precisely 4 cm and 1 sentence of column space.
