Rosa Parks Honoured

Earlier this week Rosa Parks became the first black woman to be honoured with a life-size statue in Washington.  The first statue commissioned in 140 years in the USA, President Obama said it was because of civil rights activists like Rosa Park that he is President.

US Presidential Countdown

Four years ago, Barrack Obama won the greatest ever Presidential victory known in modern history. I never believed that I would see an African American sit in the White House as President of the USA.

Memories of euphoria, of utterly disbelief and of hope filled the world. I do wonder what emotions will fill the world after this election?

Gaffe Prone Mitt

With not long to go before the US presidential election, some have declared today the day that Republican candidate, Mitt Romney lost.

Mitt Romney was filmed at a fundraiser sneering that he didn’t need to care about the 47% of Americans that don’t pay federal income tax.  Subsequently, whilst it appeared that he was embarrassed by the remarks he only apologised for the tone and not the content.

The Essential Relationship

President Obama’s speech today at Westminster Hall to British Parliament praised the relationship between USA and UK as “one of the oldest and strongest alliances the world has ever known”.  Both leaders have refrained from calling this alliance a special relationship, as their predecessors have, but an “essential” one. A relationship based on co-dependence where both leaders have come of age and are seeing eye to eye on foreign policies, especially The Middle East.

As I watched Cameron and Obama playing table tennis yesterday, I wondered whether their relationship was of the same calibre of JK Kennedy and MacMillan, Thatcher and Reagan, Bush and Blair.

Osama Bin Laden Killed

Americans celebrate as the death of Osama Bin Laden, US’s most wanted man, is announced. A stealthy operation that had been in the planning for over 6 months  led to a raid of his mansion home outside Islamabad and  two shots in the head.
