All Creatures Great and Small

During my most recent trip to Delhi I had the pleasure of accompanying a friend, Anjali Gopalan, to her newly formed dog shelter which expanded to include other animals that she and her team ended up rescuing.  Anjali is looking for volunteers so please read and pass this blog post on to friends or family that might like to join the fun.

Tucked away in the ancient Aravali Hills, the farm and dog shelter was all peace and quiet…until the dogs spotted me on the roof to photograph them!

Street dogs are part of Delhi life as much as traffic and sunshine.  Far from wild, I feel that street dogs are far better behaved than the pampered pooches that have lovely homes.

Doggy Fashion

Tutti (right) came into  my friends’ lives as a little Delhi street puppy that was under attack.  Once she recovered from her injury, they tried in vain to find her a home (they already had a dog) but she decided she already had a home with them and so is now part of the family.

Every morning we (me, Tutti, Sufi the tortoise, Batty the other dog and my other two friends) all fight for a spot in the garden where the sun shines for about 1.5hours before moving on, blasted Earth rotations, wish I could hit ‘pause’.   We all never sat so close!

Dogs do feel very cold in winter and here you can see Tutti modelling a very fine dog jacket, so I found some other ones that you could get for your little pooch for Christmas.

Sunbathing Sufi

You may remember a previous post in which I introduced my adorable pet tortoise in India, Sufi.  Well, here she is sunbathing in the winter sun, all arms and legs but she’s protecting her face.

During my last trip to Rajasthan I also became guardian of a wee tortoise, Sufi. Sufi fits in the palm of my hand but she is already 7 years old and too too cute with the most amazing designer star patterned shell.
