The Educated Housewife

A recent article on the wonderful feminist blog Jezebel asked the question: Why aren’t educated Middle-Eastern women joining the workforce?  Apparently in two thirds of Middle Eastern countries there are more women that go to university than men.  There are parallels in South Asian culture even amongst British Asians.

One University professor in the US who was questioned about this disparity commented that Middle Eastern women simply went to university to fill time and find a better husband.

The Queen’s Izzat

During the fabulous Jubilee Weekend the Queen delighted all, even the most hardened Republicans – no one could resist her charm.  Looking incredibly elegant and glamorous she must have had so much fun dressing up in her dazzling embellished dresses.

A South Asian tradition for women is that we must all carry a scarf when leaving the house as it protects our izzat or honour.

Cover Girl

Psychologies Magazine has put Archie Punjabi on their cover and this has resulted in a  little watercooler chat about women of other ethnicities being on mainstream covers.

Magazines argue that there are very few Asian women who are a mainstream success and worry that the obscurity of the cover girl may result in less sales.

Calling Mr Vain

A new report claimed that British men spend longer than British women on personal grooming, coming from a family full of vain men I could have told them that.  I can’t comment too much, I take ages … the words ‘quick’ and ‘shower’ do not ever go together.
