Oscars 2015: Beauties and The Grease

The gowns were all pretty meh this year so I thought it might be more interesting to concentrate on the hair and make up. After all, how many of us will ever wear a couture gown but we can all afford even the most expensive lipsticks and contouring powders!

Jennifer Lopez

The cold undertones of the bubblegum pink lippie is such a beautiful contrast to the nude dress and really flatters JLo’s skin tone.

Fantasy Bobs

Bob Michelle-Pfeiffer-Scarface-bob-haircut

The 90s are still riding the trend wave and so now it is the turn of hair…the bob! Of course bob haircuts have regularly enjoyed a comeback as they are so cute but they are a hairstyle I fantasise about having but will never actually get as I am a chicken and love my long curly wurly princess hair.

Soooooooo……. here are my favourite bob haircuts to inspire you (including gorgeous Michelle Pfieffer’s Scarface bob above) if you are braver than me and can handle their high maintenance :

Temples of Va Va Voom with Anju Modi

Anju Modi 3

Anju Modi Couture Collection 2014

Anju Modi’s couture collection for 2014 was inspired by Varanasi ghats, a city dedicated to the gods.  Bold embroidery motifs reminiscing the temple-laden skyline adorned heavy bridal lehengas in a beautifully balanced colour palette of royal blue through to cherry tones and frosty pastels.

Rapunzel

timoteismeagol

Sometimes after a gorgeous indulgent shower I look into a steamy mirror looking for the blond beauty in the old Timotei ads and instead I see Smeagol from Lord of the Rings. Thin stringy hair sticks to my scalp and I shudder.

Not any more! Enter L’Oréal Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum. Now, L’Oréal is a little iffy on science

Banish the Brassiness

touch of silver shampoo for blonde hair

Whether you have 90s streaky highlights or are more en vogue with ombre, nothing looks better than a hint of blonde in one’s hair to set off in this rare British heat wave.

However, there’s nothing worse

Wax Off

bliss-poetic-waxing-kit

Did I miss something? Poetic?

Ok, I’ve tried to avoid it and ignore it and hope it just went away but I am now forced to join the pubic hair debate that is rocking the nation (well, it is if you read leftie papers).

Like the 30-something journos I am gutted that 92% of 8-16 year olds have seen hard core porn. Hard core! And apparently the effect of this on our children’s minds is that they feel pubic hair is gross and girls need to be bare “down there”.

I was recently sent information on Argan oil, traditionally used in Morrocco by the Berber Tribe as a beauty and medicinal product. The oil is said to provide benefits from improving skin, nails and hair. I thought I would give it a go on a recent trip abroad.

Crispy Noodle Wig

If I don’t put a hair oil treatment on weekly, my fluffy curls turn into what resembles a crispy noodle wig.  There’s a new hair oil that I recommend that doesn’t schtink and permanently damage your sense of smell: Dabur Amla Gold.

Blonde Ambition

I have been playing around with my hair since my teens, so boring not to that’s what it’s there for. The first time I got my highlights way back in the 90s my mum sniffed at it and was perplexed as to why I would want to look like a poor field worker. It took a while for me to figure that one out!

After a few years with dark hair last year I went back to being a blondie (highlights) and it got quite an interesting reception in my recent trip to Delhi.
